Getting Through: Election Anxiety
When anxiety or stress is high, it is often related to situations that are out of your control. Election Day is a big reminder and example of that. If you are or have been feeling overwhelmed about the election, you certainly are not alone.
Here are three things getting me through, to help you get through too:
Focus on what you can control: At this point, you have either voted early or are making your way to the ballots. You have done your part & can remind yourself that you have done all that you can do.
Practice Self-Kindness: Self-kindness includes the way you speak about yourself and also how you choose to spend your time and energy. Ask yourself, “What does prioritizing my needs look like today and this week?” Do you need to take a break during your day or cancel a meeting?
Challenge yourself to practice kindness towards friends, strangers, and neighbors… especially those who have a different opinion than you.
Kindness is certainly my word of the year. Living in a world of opposing opinions and unthinkable hardships, I hold onto kindness day in and day out. When I talk kindly about myself, I feel good — more whole and aligned. When I practice kindness towards others — spoiler alert — I also feel better. Witnessing kindness — whether it is a sweet video on instagram or something I see in real life — warms my heart and reminds me that amidst the craze we have oh so much to be grateful for.
I am sending lots of kindness your way today, and always.
